A tape measure and a pencil

Solidworks, CAD, tools, CNC stuff, all of it. None of these tools will do a damn thing for you until you can draw it on the floor.

Every great home builder you’ve met, every great car builder, every great architect or designer…. Take away everything but the pencil, and they will draw it on the floor.

I’ve met some idiots with access to tools, and they make the worst stuff you’ve seen. You can tell from a mile away when someone bought tools and started copying stuff they saw.

You can also see from a mile away when someone has built something they thoroughly understand… Even if they built it with limited tools.

My advice is find something you love, that you’d do even if there was no money involved. And don’t try to take any shortcuts.

Learn the fundamental skills, get you a tape measure and a pencil, and draw it on the floor.
